Disclaimer: I received complimentary passes to The Good Dinosaur for review purposes, all opinions are my own.
Disney/Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur was announced quite a few years ago and has been pushed back and pushed back until now. My anticipation for this movie has been really high. Disney’s Dinosaur was a really blah movie and I was looking forward to a dinosaur movie I could really love. The Good Dinosaur didn’t disappoint.
First, lets take a look at the short, Sanjay’s Super Team, at the beginning of the movie. My screening of the movie experienced technical difficulties at the beginning of the short which distracted me a little from the plot. Overall, it is a cute short that shows the importance of family traditions and spending quality time together.
The Good Dinosaur Movie Review
The Good Dinosaur has a pretty solid, predictable plot with lots of laughter thrown in the mix. Though the plot never surprised, the touching moments abounded. Though Spot and Arlo could not communicate, they were able to connect on a very deep level about life, family, and death. Cute moments abound since Arlo and Spot are both children. Warning: your children might have a “howling” good time after the movie, lol! 😉
The animation in this movie is amazing! The 3d effects were awesome and is definitely worth your money to see it in 3d. During the firefly scenes I felt as if I could reach out and get one. It was so beautiful! Many, many times during the movie I had to take a double take as I thought it was real life and not animation. Pixar and Disney really shined in this movie!
This movie is child friendly. It is rated PG though.
Things to look for:
- John Ratzenberger’s character (he is in every Pixar film)
- Pixar Easter Eggs: Pizza Planet Truck, Pixar Ball, a character from upcoming movie (Finding Dory), A113. I did not find any of these or any hidden Mickey’s. If you found any of these please let me know in the comments.
No need to stay past the credits of this movie, there is no stinger scene.
