When people think of Disney they usually just think of kids. Did you know Disney can be the most romantic place on Earth too? Some of my most romantic memories have happened at Disney World. My husband and I honeymooned at Walt Disney World. Since then I have been to Disney more times than I can count and I have learned many things I would have done differently. Today I am sharing you my tips for spending your honeymoon at Disney World.
Tips for a Magical Disney Honeymoon
I had a wonderfully magical DIY Cinderella themed wedding and I was so excited about spending my honeymoon at Walt Disney World. Both my husband and I are huge Disney fans so it made sense that we would honeymoon at Disney. Here are my tips to have a romantic, fun honeymoon!
1. Stay on Disney Property
One of the biggest mistakes we made on our honeymoon was not staying on property. We made a reservation somewhere off property and it was awful. Bad service, dirty rooms, and quite a drive to get to the parks.
If I could do it over again I would stay on Disney property in at least a moderate resort. Though value resorts are more budget-friendly the walls are thinner and honeymooners need a bit more privacy. Disney has a standard of quality that is almost always wonderful and if it is not Disney goes out of their way to make it a better situation for you.
2. Use a Disney Travel Agent
If I could do it over again I would also use the services of a free Disney travel agent Like A2M Travel. With all the wedding planning I really didn’t need the extra stress of planning a Disney vacation. It is so important now with Fastpass+, needing dining reservations 6 months in advance, and booking special experiences.
3. Plan Romantic Disney Dining
Our budget-friendly honeymoon plan included quick service breakfast and lunches and then table service for dinners. This way we still were being budget-conscious but we could splurge on our dinners. We had some wonderful experiences and some not so great ones.
Chefs de France – Our best choice was Chefs de France in Epcot. It was so wonderful and romantic. The food, service, and atmosphere are perfect for a honeymooning couple.
1900 Park Fare – Another great choice for us was 1900 Park Fare. Since I had a Cinderella themed wedding it just made sense to dine with Cinderella and Prince Charming. Great food and while the atmosphere is more family-friendly than romantic it was perfect for us. Plus the Grand Floridian is gorgeous! Make sure to take some pictures around the property and in the lobby.
Another great choice was this beautiful romantic Italian restaurant off property. It is Pacinos Italian Ristorante. It has excellent food and is so beautiful! One of the things I still remember over a decade later is the beautifully painted ceilings.
Our poorest choice was Planet Hollywood. I was not sure why I chose that place, maybe because I had not been there before and wanted to try it. Planet Hollywood is different now and may not be the same but back before the remodel it was so loud that having a conversation was out of the question.
If I had to do it again I would book a couple of the following places for our honeymoon. Some of these are a bit pricier but it is your honeymoon so splurging is encouraged as long as it is budgeted for. You only have one honeymoon (hopefully). These places are quieter and have an elegant menu.
- California Grill (book around the Happily Ever After Fireworks show to view them on the balcony). We dined here on our 10th anniversary and it was amazing!
- Le Cellier
- Yatchman’s Steak House
- The Hollywood Brown Derby
- Boma. We dined here a previous anniversary and loved our experience. We asked to be seated somewhere quiet with a nice view and thought it was romantic even with Boma being a buffet. Amazing food!
- Artist Point
- Victoria & Albert’s
- Be Our Guest. Can be a very quiet meal and the atmosphere is romantic especially in the Rose room or Ballroom. The food is good and the prices are pretty budget-friendly.
4. Disney Things to Do on Your Honeymoon
I got my husband’s input on this article and he said one of his favorite things that we did was the Fantasia Mini Golfing. It is not crowded and more romantic than exploring the parks in his opinion. If one of your first dates was mini golfing it would make the experience even more memorable.
For things to do, just make sure you agree on what you do. There are enough options at Walt Disney World to form a vacation of your dreams. We spent a lot of our time at Epcot visiting characters and exploring. We had fun!
Disney has some romantic options to choose from.
- Fireworks Dessert Show either at Hollywood Studios if you are Star Wars fans, Epcot, or Magic Kingdom.
- Fireworks Dessert Cruise
- Carriage Rides
5. Plan a Long Enough Disney Honeymoon
I think the only thing I would change about the things we did was to extend our honeymoon and have the first day be a non-park day. No one tells you ahead of time that a wedding is exhausting. Between getting ready, the ceremony, and the reception, I was spent. We got to our hotel late at night and I had rope drop to park close plans because I like getting every hour of my Disney park ticket cost. I was so tired the next day.
6. How to Document and Remember Your Disney Honeymoon
I hate that we didn’t take as many photos as we should have. I am not sure if Photopass was around back when I got married but if they were I don’t remember them around much. We used disposable cameras, lol. Wow, technology has come a long way! If I was getting married now I would purchase Memory Maker so I could have all my photos. I would also immediately make a photo book online.
I love the souvenirs we bought! We got an etched glass photo frame at Epcot. A bride and groom Mickey and Minnie plush dolls, a puzzle, and a Disney throw. The photo frame and the plushes are front and center of my curio cabinet. I got bride ears which I saved and wore on our 10th anniversary a few years ago. My hubby wouldn’t get the groom hat so I get to tease him every year for not matching me, lol.
