Hocus Pocus SpellBook Treats

Thank you for sharing!

“Nothing good can come from this Book. You got it?!” That is what Thackery Binx had to say about Winifred Sanders Spellbook. While that might be true in the movie, these Hocus Pocus Spellbook treats are so good! You start off with the classic Rice Krispie treat recipe and then decorate with dark chocolate! Easy to make for your next Hocus Pocus Movie night or themed party!

What is the Story Behind the Hocus Pocus Spellbook?

The spellbook with its’ own life was said to be given to Winifred Sanders by the Devil himself in around 17th AD. It is bound in human skin, has a human eye, and often sleeps except when Winnie wakes it. Inside the book are the recipes for the spells cast by the Sanderson sisters. The book is protected by magic and cannot be burned nor destroyed.

After the deaths of the Sanderson Sisters, the Book was last seen in the witches’ cottage, opening its eye, and presumably remained there.

In the movie tale, the spellbook is the focus of the movie. It contains the spells that killed Emily Binx, cursed Thackery to be a cat, brought the Sanderson Sisters back from the dead, and almost killed Max. It also contained the secret to the salvation of Max, his girlfriend, and his little sister.

How to Make Hocus Pocus Spellbook Rice Krispie Treats

To make these delicious, bewitching treats you will need:

Step 1:

In a microwave-safe bowl, heat candy melts in a microwave for 2 minutes at 50 percent power or on defrost setting. Stir well. Microwave in 1 minutes intervals and stir until all candy melts are melted. You can also choose to do this with a double boiler.

Step 2:

Dip rice Krispie treats into the candy melts. Make sure they are covered well and place them on parchment paper to dry. Don’t worry about getting the chocolate super smooth, the waves will make the book look more authentic. Place eyes on the book to the right-center edge while chocolate is still wet.

Step 3:

Once dry, draw on the book stitching with the black glitter gel. Let dry and serve!

Tips for Making Amazing Rice Krispie Treats

If you are like me, then homemade is the route you are going to go with the Rice Krispies treats. Here are some tips to make the very best ones.

  • Don’t make these more than 1 day ahead of time for peak freshness.
  • The consistency of the marshmallows is so important, they need to still be lumpy when the cereal goes into the pot. Also, please make sure the marshmallows are fresh. I have not noticed a difference between generic marshmallows and name brand but freshness counts.
  • Use real butter not margarine.
  • Butter the dish before dumping the warm treats in.
  • Butter your (clean) fingers to pat the warm treats down into the pan.
  • Rice Krispies marshmallow treats can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to two days. If you don’t have an airtight container, you can use foil and plastic wrap instead.
  • To keep them longer, try storing Rice Krispies treats in your freezer for up to six weeks.
