Haunted Mansion Inspired Graveyard Dirt Cups

Sharing is caring!

One of my favorite things to do while waiting in line for the Haunted Mansion at Disney World is to read the gravestones of the dearly departed. I have made a cute twist on a typical Oreo Dirt Cup recipe and made them into Haunted Mansion Inspired Graveyard Dirt Cups.

These would be perfect to have during a Haunted Mansion movie night or just for a Halloween party.

These Haunted Mansion treats are easy to make and don’t take much time either, so a great last-minute treat.

What is Needed to Make These Haunted Mansion Inspired Graveyard Dirt Cups?

  • 2 cups cold milk- 2% or higher is best because they make a thicker pudding.
  • 1 package (4 oz) chocolate instant pudding, any brand. Pudding is one of the products I don’t notice a difference between the national brands and generics.
  • 1 – 8 oz container whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 package (16 0z) Oreos (crushed into crumbs). You use regular Oreos but I used the Peanut Butter ones currently available. They added a nice flavor to the cups.
  • Gummy Worms
  • 10 plastic cups (8 oz. size)
  • Wilton Food Writer Edible Color Markers
  • Milano Cookies

Haunted Mansion Gravestones

When making these gravestones you probably won’t have space to write the full epitaph on the cookie, but I did want it to be as inspired as possible so I did write the actual names that are found on the graves at the haunted Mansion.

  • In memory of Our Patriarch, Dear Departed Grandpa Marc
  • Dear Departed Brother Dave, He chased a bear into a cave
  • Here Rests Wathel R Bender, He Rode to Glory On A Fender. Peaceful Rest
  • Master Gracey, Laid To Rest, No Mourning Please At His Request, Farewell
  • Requiescat, Francis Xavier, No Time Off For Good Behavior, RIP
  • Here Lies Good Old Fred, A Great Big Rock Fell On His Head, RIP
  • Rest In Peace Cousin Huet, We all Know You Didn’t Do It

Do you take the time before and after the ride to read the gravestones? Did you know that each name is based on a real person that has Disney affiliations?

Haunted Mansion Inspired Graveyard Dirt Cups Tips

  • Fine Dirt or Rocky dirt? For my dirt cups, I did coarse dirt. I put the cookies in a ziplock bag and then smashed with a rolling pin. For finer dirt, put the Oreos in a food processor.
  • Make These Ahead of Time. These can be made the day before minus the gravestone and the worms. Add those right before serving.
  • Swap Out the Cool Whip. I know some people don’t like the processed nature of Cool Whip, my husband is one of them. Prepare some homemade whipped topping.
  • Practice Writing the Names. Trace a Milano Cookie on some paper and take a marker with a similar-sized tip and practice the names so you will know what fits and what doesn’t.

How to Make Jello Dirt Cups

Jello dirt cups are super simple to make.

Simply make the chocolate instant pudding, then fold in the Cool Whip. Crush the Oreos and then layer the Oreos and chocolate mixture.
