Thank you for sharing!

Free Activities To Do at Disney World

Free Activities To Do at Disney World

I always encourage guests visiting Walt Disney World to schedule a couple down days on their vacation. Disney World can be tiring and having a day away from the busyness of the parks can be nice. That doesn’t mean that you still can’t have lots of low-key Disney fun.

Many of these free activities to do at Disney World don’t even require you to be a Walt Disney World resort guest. If you are staying off property you can do these activities as well.

Disney’s Electrical Water Pageant

Disney’s Electrical Pageant is a little nighttime light parade on the Seven Seas Lagoon. You can catch this parade at several of the resorts. It is very reminiscent of Disney Main Street Electrical Parade.

Happily Ever After Fireworks

While this was a much better experience with Wishes fireworks, you can still enjoy the Happily Ever After Fireworks without a park ticket. It is not as great now because a lot of the show is based on the projections on the castle which can’t be seen.

You can also watch the Halloween fireworks and Christmas fireworks from the monorail resorts as well. The music is piped in.

Places to Watch Disney Fireworks for Free with Piped in Music

If the audio is too soft I just look for someone live streaming the fireworks on Facebook and listen that way.

  • The Transportation and Ticket Center towards the ferryboat dock.
  • Contemporary Resort 4th Floor Observation Deck. This is open to all guests, not just resort guests, unless it is the 4th of July or New Year’s Eve.
  • Beach at the Polynesian. This is my favorite location. There will be spots to watch from the beach as well as just off the sidewalk. I also like this spot because I can grab a Dole Whip to enjoy to enhance the experience.
  • Grand Floridian Dock.  After entering the Grand Floridian, head out the back of the building and follow the signs to Narcoossee’s. The dock is located right next to the restaurant.

Disney World Resort Hopping Activities

At every resort, there are free activities to do. Activities that can be done at all of the resorts include finding hidden Mickey’s, cute photos opps, and window shopping. I have shared below several free things to do that are specific to the resort.

Disney changes what they offer all the time. Be sure to ask a Cast Member for the schedule of activities for that day.

Grand Floridian

Cinderella’s Royal Promenade. Cinderella and Prince Charming lead all little Princes and Princesses down the Grand staircase and dance to ‘So This is Love’. It is such a sweet thing to watch!

Romantic Piano Music. During the day a very gifted piano player comes out and plays on the Grand Piano. You can grab a seat in the very comfy couches and listen. Usually, the piano player takes requests. I have seen couples dance, ok my husband and I have danced several times in the Grand Floridian Lobby. I have even seen a few proposals in this very romantic atmosphere.

Swing Band. When the piano player takes a break the swing band located on the second floor comes out. Another chance to dance and enjoy the old-fashioned atmosphere of the Grand Floridian.

Art of Animation Resort

The Art of Animation resort offers animation classes in their resort lobby. This is similar to what they used to have at Hollywood Studios. I have gone a couple times and loved the drawings I drew. The Disney animators that teach the course are very good.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

  • See the Animals. There are several public places to see the animals at the resort. Plus, there are Cast Members hanging around that can share with you about the animals.
  • Boma and Jiko Culinary Tours. The Mouse for Less shares all about their experience with this neat free tour.

Polynesian Resort

Lei Craft. Sometimes in the kid’s corner, someone is teaching how to make leis and you can make one for yourself. Either a necklace or a bracelet.

Hula Dancing. One of the most fun free experiences I have had at Disney World is my free Hula dance lesson in the lobby. They have you wear grass skirts and everything. Once you are done you get a cute certificate. Check the front desk for when there is a class next.

Movie Under the Stars

I have this listed separately from the resort hopping activities because I consider this one of the best activities to do during your vacation to unwind.

Every Disney World Resort offers a Movie Under the Stars. If you don’t like the movie playing at your resort you can hop to another resort to see what they are playing. You can get the movie schedule at the front desk. Free popcorn is also served.

Free Disney Springs Entertainment

Disney Springs is a shopping and entertainment mecca. While there are a lot of places to spend money, I am just going to talk about the free things to do at Disney Springs.

Free Music. You can listen to free concerts at the Performing Arts Concert pavilion and the outdoor stage just outside of Hanger Bar.

Play with LEGOS. The LEGO store in Disney Springs has a play area that’s in the shade where kids of all ages can build and race their LEGO creations.

Disney World Resort Tours

Several of the resorts, including Animal Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian, and Yacht Club, offer FREE tours that are open to any Disney resort guests. Some of the tours require a reservation, so call the resort for specific information in advance.

Ride the Monorail

How often can you ride a monorail at home? For a longer monorail journey, ride over to EPCOT. This trip takes about 20 minutes round trip, not including time to wait for a monorail to arrive. You can catch the Epcot monorail at the TTC (Ticket & Transportation Center).

And my Favorite – FREE Wake Up Call – Guests at the Walt Disney World resort hotels can request a free wake up call from Mickey or Stitch on their hotel phone.  Other Characters may be available, so ask when you place the request!

I should share this with my ex-sister in law who is a Disney fanatic. Quality information. Thank you.

When we lived in Florida we did almost all those activities. I abhor Disney, but my daughter loves it. Thankfully her dad's family are huge Mickey fans and they go all out. But it was a lot of fun to do the free things with her when she was little!

There are so many free things to do at Disney you'll never run out. My girls loved the daily movie-by-the-pool at most of the hotels!
