Disclaimer: I received complimentary passes to Disney’s Cinderella in hopes that I would mention it on my blog. All opinions are my own.
The very anticipated Frozen Fever short at the beginning of the movie is so cute and one that kids and adults will both find endearing. It is funny and brings back all the characters. I give Frozen Fever 5/5 stars!
I would like to preface this review with the fact that I am a true Cinderella fan. My favorite princess doesn’t change with the release of a new movie. I had a Cinderella themed wedding. My bedroom is Cinderella themed. I collect anything Cinderella. I have seen many versions of Cinderella, including A Cinderella Story and Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. All that being said, I am really disappointed in this version of Cinderella. I am not saying it was horrible, I just feel as if Disney missed the mark.
Disney’s live action Cinderella did do a beautiful job of portraying the true character of Cinderella. You get a glimpse into her life as a child and learn where her courage and kindness comes from. Her character is what frees her from being just a servant girl, not the prince. I also appreciated that the movie showed a forgiving Cinderella. One of the reasons Cinderella resonates with me so much is that I was abused as a child and have found my Prince Charming. I have learned to forgive as does Cinderella in this movie.
The dress Cinderella wears is gorgeous and I couldn’t help thinking throughout that scene of all the wonderful Disney bounding outfits that could be made using the beautiful gown as inspiration. The glass slippers are so beautiful as well. I also really loved the beauty of Cinderella’s wedding gown.
Disney totally missed the mark on the fairy godmother scene. First, they start by doing a scene reminiscent of the intro from Beauty and the Beast. I understand they were trying to portray Cinderella’s kindness, but her character had proven her kind all throughout the movie. The extra transformation was not needed. Then Disney makes the Fairy Godmother young and ditzy. I did not like her character at all. Plus, what was with the lizards? The goose I could understand and liked, but the lizards just did not fit.
Disney also messed up on the music end for me. Part of the beauty of Disney’s animated Cinderella is the music. I am in love with the music. This new Cinderella’s music is nothing to write home about and none of it reminiscent of the animated version. At the very least they could of made the ballroom scene with an updated version of So This is Love.
Overall, I give Disney’s Live Action Cinderella 3/5 stars. If you are not a true Disney and/or Cinderella fan, I would just save your money and wait until it comes out on Blu-Ray.
So, have you seen it yet? What did you think about it?
