Celebrating the rich cultures and vibrant landscapes of Spain, Mexico, and the American Southwest through contemporary design and Old World traditions, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort shines with renewed luster. On July 9, 2019, the resort completed a multiyear re-imagining focused on today’s travelers, marking the official debut of a new tower, new restaurants, and a new arrival experience. This is my review of Coronado Springs Resort.

About Coronado Springs Resort

Coronado Springs Resort opened Aug. 1, 1997, as Disney’s largest convention resort featuring one of the largest single-level convention centers on the East Coast. This year it finished a reimagining and it is gorgeous!

The resort is located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom resort area. There are 2,385 guest rooms, including suites in lakeside casitas and the new Gran Destino Tower.

Even if you are not staying in the tower, the tower area is where you check-in. It is gorgeous and worth the time to take a look around and maybe even enjoy a drink at the lounge.

Gran Destino Tower takes its name from the surrealistic Disney animated film “Destino”.

Three lodging districts adjacent to Gran Destino Tower are inspired by the elegant cities, neighborhood dwellings and diverse natural landscapes of Mexico and the American Southwest:

  • The elegant and sophisticated Casitas emphasizes the residential areas of colonial cities found all over Mexico. This is where I stayed.
  • The Ranchos represent ranch houses of the dry southwestern chaparral regions of northern Mexico and the American Southwest.
  • The Cabanas evoke the look and feel of a small tropical coastal fishing village on the Mexican coast.

The Dig Site pool complex features a massive gray stone Mayan temple that recalls many of the ceremonial centers created by the ancient Mayans; according to Disney legend, the temple sits five stories above the Coronado Springs, and the water cascades down the temple’s steps into the Lost City of Cibola Feature Pool. Bas-relief sculptures, called stellae, have been carved on the pyramid. The deck and its tiled bottom also feature inlaid representations of Mayan symbols.

Casitas Resort Room Review

Coronado Springs resort is a beautiful sprawling resort but there is a bridge in the center that connects all the areas. Getting to the main lobby and dining areas is a quick walk (about 5-10 minutes) from anywhere.

The rooms are updated with laminate flooring instead of carpeting which I love. It just seems cleaner to me. I stayed in a standard room which is the cheapest of the available room options. My view included a small courtyard, the other side of the building got to view the parking lot.

The room design is simple and other than a few Disney art pieces in the room, you almost forget that you are at a Disney resort. Since this resort is more geared for conventions rather than families it makes sense.

The resort comes with a nice desk space if you are coming for business.

The bathroom is very nice. It has doors that close off both the sink area and then a door to the actual bathroom. It is big enough to put a pack and pack in there if you want lights out earlier for a baby.

While there were big bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body in the shower there were also sample sizes available on the counter. The shower is a walk-in shower with plenty of room.

Since the resort is bigger there are 3 bus stops and the resort does not share the bus with any other resorts. Because of the multiple bus stops, it does take a bit longer to travel to the parks.

In my opinion, this resort is best for couples and those attending conferences. There are Disney touches but they are more sophisticated. I think it is somewhat of a romantic resort, especially at night.
