Disney Springs, previously Downtown Disney, is completely free to explore. The parking is even free. If you can’t afford an extra day in the parks, but still need some Disney magic, Disney Springs is the perfect place to hang out. Here are my top tips for exploring Disney Springs.
8 Tips for Exploring Disney Springs
Have Dining Planned Before You Get There
Some places are part of the Disney Dining plan and some are not. Many of the popular places require Advanced Dining Reservations. One of my favorite frugal places to eat is Blaze Pizza.
Check out the Performing Arts Schedule
Several times throughout the day dance teams, choirs, drama teams, orchestras, and bands perform on the stage. These performances are completely free. The stage is located near the Lego store and the World of Disney Store. Get to the performances a little early to grab a seat in the covered seating area.
Attend the DJ Kids Dance party at Waterside Stage
This is a fun, high energy party fun for all ages. The times vary so check with a Cast member or the times guide when the party will be when you are there.
Use Disney Transportation
Disney has boats that go from one side of Disney Springs to the other. The boat rides are nice and give you a beautiful view of the area, especially at night when everything is lit. You can also use the buses to start resort hopping at the bus loop.
The transformation to Disney Springs is almost complete, there are still a few walls up but overall navigation is much easier than before. If you have been to Downtown Disney before, be prepared to feel a little lost with the new layout. Thankfully, there are map billboards and Cast Members to help!
Explore New Places
Some stores I just plain skip because I can find the same store in a local mall. When I go to Disney, I want something I can’t go to at home. My favorite stores are the World of Disney store, Uni Qlo, and the Art of Disney Store. I could spend all day in those stores.
Set a Budget and Research Prices Before Going
There are plenty of things to do in Downtown Disney without spending money, but there are experiences that you might want to do that cost money. Sometimes the Orlando Groupon has a deal on the Characters of Flight experience. The new Amphicars cost $125. The $125 price tag includes your own Car Captain and seating for up to three guests. The Bibbidi, Bobbidi Boutique starts at $59.99.
Explore in the Evening
Disney Springs nightlife starts in the evening and is just magical. The whole place lights up and street performers make unexpected magic. You can have a drink and unwind without the need to hurry to the next attraction or worry about your next fastpass+.
