10 Perfect Road Trip Snacks

Thank you for sharing!

What are your perfect road trip snacks? My idea of perfect road trip snacks include snacks that fuel the body, especially if you are the driver. You don’t want snacks that are going to be carbohydrate loaded and make you sleepy. I also think of snacks that are easy to clean up and eat while moving.  I also look at price and though running through McDonald’s might appear cheaper, if the foods tire you out quicker it really cost you too much. Here are 10 perfect road trips snacks that are healthy and frugal!

10 Perfect Road Trip Snacks

Veggie Mix Bag– baby carrots, celery sticks, cucumbers, sliced peppers. These are perfect road trip snacks because they can usually be eaten without dips. Broccoli and cauliflower beg for a dip in my opinion because of their dryness.

Fruit– Apples, bananas, grapes, strawberries are perfect road trip snacks because they don’t need to be cut up and are not super juicy.

Cubed Cheese and Meats– I love bringing cubed cheese and meats. I just cut up a block of cheese since that is cheaper than the deli. For the meats I grab some pepperoni (Turkey pepperoni for me), thick sliced deli meats that I can cube myself, and maybe some summer sausage as well. Be careful not too eat to much of this option because of the salt content. Too much salt can slow you down and also make you more thirsty.

Fiesta Roasted Chickpeas– this recipe is easy to make a couple days ahead of time and has a lot of protein too!

Homemade Larabars– Just three ingredients, and complex carbs. The added cinnamon lowers blood sugar too, which keeps you alert.

No Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Energy Balls– This recipe has a few more ingredients but looks very easy to make. Who doesn’t need more energy while driving, well, other than the kids?

Italian Brown Paper Bag Popcorn– This recipe is perfect for road trips, little mess and popcorn is a healthy choice because it is a low carbohydrate item.

Whole Wheat Oatmeal Breakfast Cookies– These cookies would make a nice addition to your box of snacks.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Granola Bites– Great energy bites with chocolate and peanut butter, who can ask for more?

Corn Snack Mix– This is packed full of protein with all the nuts in it- sounds really tasty too!

I am so happy I came across this post! My boyfriend and I love to travel and we go on quite a few roadtrips. I have had MAJOR STRUGGLES with eating healthy on the road, mostly because I am a fast-food addict! Last summer I tried bringing fruit but to be honest I never touched it! However we consumed lots of granola bars- not the worst choice! Great post...the oatmeal balls are a great idea I'll have to bring along for next time!
